“This year, Internet advertising turns 18-years-old. And yet despite almost two decades of innovation online, digital ads are still being used to simply inform more than they’re being used to connect, engage and entertain. So we designed this experiment to re-imagine what advertising can be and push the boundaries of how creative ideas and our technology can work hand in hand.”

  •  Irv's ad concept
New York resident Irv Gordon is an ordinary Volvo driver with an extraordinary car. He has driven his 1966 Volvo P1800s a world-record 2.9 million miles. Not only can we tell Irv’s story through a series of films, with Google+ and Google Maps we can allow the viewer to become a part of his unique journey in real-time as he counts down to the 3-million-mile mark.

I am driving my 1800S on the Vaux de Cernay Abbey road , Chevreuse protected regional parc - France.(Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay - Parc naturel régional de la Haute Vallée de Chevreuse)

I have always thought it would be interesting to travel as one did in the mid-century time period, when the automobile was not just a transport device, but a work of art and a comfort zone

I just found a minute ago a new fellow that shares fully my view of jumping in the 60's and a famous one, Painter Andrew King,  as he states : "I have always thought it would be interesting to travel as one did in the mid-century time period, (1955-1965) when the automobile was not just a transport device, but a work of art and a comfort zone..."  If you are around take a tour of his new exhibition opening tomorrow , because you will have the pleasure to admire a great P1800 mood painting :
'Chance Encounter,' by Andrew King (48 by 12 in, acrylic on panel) at Wall Space Gallery. (Photo courtesy the gallery)
Read more also here on his website about the spirit that prevailed in this “AFTER 8” ARTIST PROJECT adventure behind the exhibition ...
While reading all his website explanation you should know what is not said about the exact car he was driving with his girlfriend and fellow artist Alison Fowler on the backroads of New york area .... it was for sure an essential choice of the author and very naturally . . . a P1800.
Thank you Andrew and also Alison for this "Chance Encounter" !

P1800 inspiring Disney Pixar Finn McMissile ?

Looks like the P1800 is inspiring Disney Pixar !
The new Character "Finn McMissile" from the movie "Cars 2" released today in the US has pretty much a P1800 flavour to me ... including the fact of impersonating a British Agent ... does it remind you anybody ?

    • Finn is a Pixar in-house design resulting of the blend of several sports cars from the 1960s, notably British and Italian. Character art director Jay Shuster said: "We wanted him to be a really elegantly designed English sportscar from the sixties. We did this really deep search into that kind of car from that era. We took everything from all the cars we love and baked it into Finn."[1]
    • Because of his name, the developing team wanted Finn to have fins, but they realized very few British cars have some. They finally found a 1958 British sports car called the Peerless GT that did feature tailfins, and it served as one of the basis of the inspiration.[4][1]

      About Finn McMissile
Finn McMissile is a master British spy. Though charming and eloquent, it's his stealth manoeuvring, intelligence and years in the field that enable him to thwart unexpected attacks from bad guys, making quick daredevil escapes.. Finn's design is sleek and timeless, but he's also prepared for any tricky situation with an arsenal of ultra-cool gadgets and weaponry, including front and rear grappling hooks, a missile launcher, deployable magnetic explosives and a holographic disguise emitter. As a seasoned professional in the game of international espionage, Finn believes there is a conspiracy brewing during the World Grand Prix. His clandestine work surrounding the global exhibition race puts him on a collision course with Mater, whom he mistakes for an undercover American agent with a genius disguise.

Irv celebrate Golden Anniversary of the P1800 in Australia

In September, Irv will travel to Australia to celebrate the car's golden anniversary. Irv has also restated his goal to hit three million miles.
“In honor of the P1800's 50th anniversary, I'd like to reaffirm my goal of reaching three million miles within the next two years,” said Gordon. “Recently my P1800 has been through some terrible weather, and never complained once. What a great automobile! Hitting 2.9 million miles is a true testament to Volvo and those who designed it.”

An right this recent terrible weather was when Irv came back from the Volvo Meet in Gateway Colorado museum (owned by Discovery Channel founder) in middle of nowhere, he had to face crazy storm and even stay up all night since he did not find in hurry an hotel with closed parking for the Milnmlr !

      Timeless 50-Year-Old
The Volvo P1800, this alert 50-year-old, was never intended to be a mass-produced car. It was and still is a niche product, the top of the model range, yet at the same time viable enough to be within the reach of ordinary people who wanted a car that looked like a Ferrari but cost and functioned like a Volvo: pleasant, reliable and economical. It appealed to people even before it arrived in the showrooms in 1961 and its design has been shown to stand the test of time: it is timeless, classic and sporty in a well-balanced way.
P1800 owners owe a debt of gratitude to Gunnar Engellau and Helmer Petterson who pushed for Volvo to build the car, to Pelle Petterson who designed it, to Volvo who kept the model going in good times and bad over a period of 12 years.
