Pelle receives honors for his design of the P1800

Pelle petterson received with great honors a special price from Design & Craft museum Röhsska Museet in Gothenburg. A commemoration of his design of the volvo P1800 in 1957,  65 years ago.

Several pics including Pelle and the 4 owners of the 3 original P1800 prototypes + the 1st production car. These. Congrats to Ericsson Automobile for this initiative, I have to say that back in the 2 years of preparation of the Viking Classic Autoshow while in touch with Volvo cars heritage head I touched this very point early with Claes, and he then (after 60 years) issued a formal acknowledgement in the name of Volvo cars. That design event is a most welcomed additional step! Thanks again Pelle for this unique design in automotive history.

P1800 makes a cameo in spy drama

The swoopy Volvo P1800 shares the screen with Tom Hanks in “Bridge of Spies.”
Among the relatively small number of collectible Volvos, one stands out above the rest: the swoopy P1800 coupe from the 1960s. And now Volvo's classic -- built to compete with early '60s British, Italian and German sports cars -- is making a big-screen appearance in Steven Spielberg's Cold War drama Bridge of Spies. In the movie, Tom Hanks plays a lawyer working to free captured U.S. U-2 pilot Francis Gary Powers, who was shot down over the Soviet Union in 1960. In one scene, Hanks is a passenger in a pearly white P1800 that zips through East Berlin in early 1962, driven by an East German lawyer played by Sebastian Koch. For reasons necessary to the plot, Koch intentionally exceeds the speed limit so the police will stop the car and detain Hanks for not having the right papers. That is slightly out of character for the P1800 because, looks aside, it never was known as a speed burner. The P1800's Facebook fans are thrilled to see the car on screen, but several have pointed out the movie car is apparently a later model.

That Moment When One Become P1800 Enthusiast

When did our P1800 or car Enthusiast Passion start?  what special event made it become our long lasting center of interest?  this beautiful short film captures one of this kind of "ignition".

I think many of us can remember that moment when the spark plug in our mind hits that perfect mixture of oxygen and gasoline and our brain suddenly fills with visions of all the cars we want and never leaves. The short film 'Ignition,' which won the Volvo Cars-sponsored short film contest, captures that moment beautifully.

The P1800 one of the Sexiest Cars of All Time

"Sexy" and "Volvo" aren't usually in the same sentence, but the P1800 was a bright spot of sensual design in the otherwise austere Swedish company's history. Roger Moore's other suave, gun-toting hero, Simon "The Saint" Templar, drove one, and the actor loved it so much he bought one for personal use.

The Artistified P1800 Drive

Given the News, I couldn't resist playing with this Artistifier tool (or how to make an "Artist" movie from your favorite video) my target was inevitably one of my favorite P1800 Drive on the very same road Irv Gordon made me the honor of driving my 1800S coupé.
I am driving my 1800S on the Vaux de Cernay Abbey road , Chevreuse protected regional parc - France.(Abbaye des Vaux de Cernay - Parc naturel régional de la Haute Vallée de Chevreuse)

I have always thought it would be interesting to travel as one did in the mid-century time period, when the automobile was not just a transport device, but a work of art and a comfort zone

I just found a minute ago a new fellow that shares fully my view of jumping in the 60's and a famous one, Painter Andrew King,  as he states : "I have always thought it would be interesting to travel as one did in the mid-century time period, (1955-1965) when the automobile was not just a transport device, but a work of art and a comfort zone..."  If you are around take a tour of his new exhibition opening tomorrow , because you will have the pleasure to admire a great P1800 mood painting :
'Chance Encounter,' by Andrew King (48 by 12 in, acrylic on panel) at Wall Space Gallery. (Photo courtesy the gallery)
Read more also here on his website about the spirit that prevailed in this “AFTER 8” ARTIST PROJECT adventure behind the exhibition ...
While reading all his website explanation you should know what is not said about the exact car he was driving with his girlfriend and fellow artist Alison Fowler on the backroads of New york area .... it was for sure an essential choice of the author and very naturally . . . a P1800.
Thank you Andrew and also Alison for this "Chance Encounter" !
